{July 31, 2013}   Don’t Worry. Be ‘APP-Y!

Don’t Worry. Be ‘APP-Y!

Don’t Worry. Be ‘APP-Y!

Dear Greetings!,
A new study released by McAfee reveals that a significant online disconnect exists between parents and pre-teens, teens and young adults.

Big surprise, right?

While this news may not be a big surprise, what surprised us was the fact that not only are parents unaware of how their kids are behaving in the digital domain, they are simply just giving up on digital parenting altogether. And that’s too bad. To learn more about this study read our post, or better yet, read a 14-year-old’s advice on what you should be asking your kids about their digital behavior.

To help grownups across this digital divide, we’re dedicating NewsWise to the "App" (short for "application," an app typically refers to a piece of software that can run on your smartphone or mobile device). If you are like us, your child has likely downloaded several of these onto their (or your) smartphone already. Clicking on those pretty little icons is a great way to see first-hand how much fun (and educational) apps can be!

Lastly, we’d like to offer our congratulations to Verizon Wireless West, iKeepSafe, and the California School Libraries Association for being honored with the Media Literate Award for 2013 at the NAMLE Conference for the "BE a PRO Mobile: Connect with Confidence" workshops that we, ahem, were honored to help create. You can read a round-up of the best of NAMLE on NewsWise this month as well.

Wishing you an ‘App-y summer!

Your Friends at CyberWise.
